If you are running Windows 95 and receive either "unkown TCP/IP error has occured" or "501 invalid domain name" when using mail, try these steps. This fix has been known to work with MS Internet Mail and Pegasus, and may come in handy with Eudora as well.

  1. Close the mail client.
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. Select Run.
  4. In the Open text box, type regedit.
  5. Click the OK button.

  6. From the left column under My Computer, double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  7. Double-click System.
  8. Double-click CurrentControlSet.
  9. Double-click status.
  10. Double-click VxD.
  11. Double-click MSTCP.

  12. From the right column under Name, double-click HostName.
  13. Click the Ok button.

  14. Close regedit and restart the mail client.
