Macintosh OS 7.5 and greater > Force Quit

Occasionally an application will suddenly halt or freeze, making the Macintosh virtually functionless. Force Quit may be used to actually "force an application to quit." Clicking the Force Quit button will either crash the machine or return you to the Finder, where you can try saving any open documents.

Note:
After your Force Quit the system is usually unstable, so you should restart as soon as possible.
